Overseas Licence Conversion

Overview:

If you have a current overseas motorcycle licence, you may be able to convert it to a New Zealand licence. Depending on the country of issue and how long you’ve held the licence, you may need to sit a theory and/or practical test. For full information on overseas conversions, please visit the NZTA webpage.

Pricing:

  • Overseas Licence Conversion Coaching: $260
  • Overseas Licence Conversion Coaching and Bike Hire: $260
Additional one-on-one training is available at $100 per hour, including advanced riding techniques and preparation for restricted and full licence assessments.

Steps For Converting

Your Overseas Licence

For those who are required to sit the practical full licence test, you can opt to do the CBTA F as your test. Here’s what you need to do:

Step 1

Get Your NZ Class 6 Learner Licence

This is the beginning of the conversion process and usually requires passing the theory test (for non-exempt countries).

Step 2

Obtain Written Confirmation from NZTA

Ensure you have written confirmation that you are eligible for the overseas licence conversion, allowing you to skip the restricted licence phase.

Step 3

Book and Pass Your CBTA F

You can book your CBTA F test HERE. We highly recommend completing either a Bronze Ride Forever course or some one-on-one coaching first.

Step 4

Submit Your Application

Complete the application form via the NZTA website at NZTA Exemptions, including a certified copy of your overseas driver’s licence and/or certificate of particulars and the Competency Based Training Assessment certificate issued to you.
