The CBTA Restricted Licence assessment allows you to progress from your learner licence to a restricted licence without a minimum waiting period, provided you meet the age requirement.

Where Are They Held?

When Can the Assessment Be Sat?
If you hold a Learner’s Licence, you can sit your Restricted Licence assessment at any time; there is no need to wait for six months. However, you must be at least 16 ½ years old.
Do I Need My Own Bike?
Yes. Bikes can be hired at an extra cost of $50( You can use your own if you prefer (must be LAMS approved).

What Does the CBTA Involve?
The assessment ensures you are competent in various riding skills. It is conducted with an assessor following you on a motorcycle, using top-of-the-range 2-way Bluetooth Intercom systems for safety. Your riding skills will be assessed throughout the ride.
How Long Does the CBTA Take?
The assessment takes between 50-60 minutes of riding time, covering both urban and higher-speed areas. Allow up to 1.5 hours to complete your 6R, including the briefing and paperwork.
Do I Need My Own Helmet and Gloves?
Yes, you need to have your own helmet and gloves for the restricted and full licence assessments.
Do I Need Training Prior to Sitting the CBTA?
Training isn’t compulsory, but it is highly recommended to prepare thoroughly before attempting the assessment ride.
